repairing buccaneer: the final push
I'm very happy to inform that the repair of Buccaneer Landing is once again in full swing. As many of you know, this awesome section of the resort's grounds was severely damaged by the "polar vortex" storm phenomenon this past winter. The repair project had to be put on hold several times as team members were needed to assist with other major maintenance projects we had on the agenda for 2014 (re-roofing key buildings, for example). Completing the Landing's repair will be the full focus of Paya's Grounds Team during the present month of September. Cesar, Arnold, and Josue restarted the project yesterday and they have already made good progress. It's hot, arduous work. As can be appreciated in the photos, it's all manual labor. That said, I suspect Buccaneer will be even better than before when these hard-working guys are finished with it!

what are these boys up to now?
Today I captured Paya Bay's Grounds Team as they worked on a new seaside project. These three guys have been doing amazing work together the last few weeks. Hard work. It's obvious to me that despite the level of difficulty they put lots of heart into their efforts. It shows in the quality of the results.
Glayson, Cesar (Team Leader), and Eric.
Glayson, one of the most honorable, well-intentioned young men on the island.
Eric. This kid's politeness and can-do attitude warm the heart.
What are they up to at the foot of the cliff? It has to do with the new hamaca stations, but the details are a secret (for now).

peeks at paya
A few photos I've taken around the property the last couple of days...
The Bliss Beach plunge pool in all its glory!
A view from the main deck area (looking east toward the Big Beach).
Triple-peaked Picacho looms in the background keeping an eye on things.
Lurlene's Garden. (After it was built, I dedicated this little flower station to my mom.)
It's pretty awesome to live in heaven!

photo of the day
Foxy and Lucky strike a pose on the "blue road" which runs along the edge of the Wetlands Reserve toward the boat dock. This road is not "paved" in the traditional sense, it just has a layer of gravel on it that has this blue tint. The gravel is quarried locally on the island. Paya Bay Resort, Roatan, Honduras.

new discovery

Yesterday I discovered this rather deep cavern in the rocky area behind Lil Bay Beach. The entrance is big enough for a person to slide through and once inside it widens significantly. From what I could see, the tunnel continues for some distance. I'll have to explore it (even though it probably has bats and startling those can be a freaky experience).

doing an awesome job

Bannis takes a moment to contemplate a section of the Paya Trail he's been working very hard on. This section above Buccaneer Landing is being built through mostly solid rock. He designs the retaining wall as he goes along, placing the chunks of rock in a pattern that makes them stable without using cement.

the paya trail

This new trail which runs from the rooms area to Lil Bay Beach will be the 'expressway' of Paya Bay. Wide, flat, and relatively straight, this path will make getting to the various areas of the property quick and easy. It replaces the 'ridge top trail' which is being discontinued to prepare the ridge top area (with its great views of the ocean) for new cabins that are on the drawing board. The beautiful surroundings of our many paths contributes to you getting good nature at Paya Bay.

Our growing network of trails and paths.
