blissful sunday afternoon

There's little doubt which Paya Bay chillout station is the dogs' favorite. New puppy, Chestnut, had an especially fun time yesterday playing in the tidal pool as I spent quality time with two friends.

paya from new eyes

Professional photographer Cinthia Casco was at Paya recently for a wedding. She shared these spectacular photos she took of Bliss Beach and the plunge pool. Honduras and its Bay Islands are gorgeous country. Come visit!

funny (not so funny)

The cognitive dissonance... it's mind-boggling. What gets me are those that get on their laptops (a product of science) and their hand-held devices (another product of science) to showcase their ignorance and/or close-mindedness on the Internet (yet another product of science). WTF? If you don't believe in science, it would be way less hypocritical if you used something like, say, smoke signals to spread your anti-science message, instead of using the cool, convenient tools that exist today because of this "so-called science" you don't believe in. Either that, or STFU, because THIS is what's happening in the reality-based, appropriately educated world.

a visual of my roatan's message

I used the wordart.com website to create this word art of the most common words in the My Roatan blog. This has been my message to the world these past TEN years of blogging about My Adventures in Creating Nirvana.

Namaste.

timely wisdom

the leader of the free world

President Obama is quoting Nelson Mandela in his most retweeted tweet ever.

"the only morally justifiable reaction is disgust"

Tuesday was a great day for David Duke and racists everywhere. The president of the United States all but declared that he has their backs.

When a white supremacist stands accused of running his car into a crowd of protesters, killing one and injuring 19, Americans of goodwill mourn and demand justice. When this is done in the context of a rally where swastikas are borne and racist and anti-Semitic epithets hurled, the only morally justifiable reaction is disgust. When the nation’s leader does not understand this, the nation can only weep.
- Washington Post Editorial

internet meme of the day

The latest meltdown. My maternal grandfather's merchant ship was torpedoed in the Caribbean by white supremacists during WWII. Although he's now transcended, Mr. Evans Cooper survived to tell the story. We must all act to smother and suffocate fascism wherever and whenever it begins to manifest its evil head. History is counting on us.

project x (continued...)

This week we've been putting a good a bit of resources and energy into Project X, a new space on the west-facing part of the property that I'm tentatively calling Serenity. The work this week involves installing reinforced bamboo fencing around the perimeters of the dual-level deck spaces located above Buccaneer Landing. The new decks have commanding views of the verdant ridges of Roatan, the Diamond Rock mangrove forests, the tranquil seagrass flats between the island and the reef, the Mesoamerican barrier reef, the Caribbean Sea beyond it, and the expansive, infinite tropical sky. This is the perfect spot for sunset events at the resort.

island angels

It's cashew season, and the other day Whitney and Britney dropped by selling roasted cashews. The girls are neighbors, their home is adjacent to Paya Bay property.

video: tropical storm franklin is just not that into us

Luckily, Tropical Storm Franklin is passing over 100 miles north off the Bay Islands. Besides a few showers earlier today, we are experiencing virtually no effects from this storm (it's actually sunny outside right now as I publish this post). As always, best wishes to our neighbors in Mexico and Belize who may be more impacted by this weather system.

the magic of paya

A few weeks ago I noticed a couple of white-crowned pigeons (Patagioenas leucocephala) had made their nest in an eye-level coconut tree right off our main deck.

More recently I noticed the eggs had hatched and the chicks seemed quite well-fed and healthy.
