Yellow-Crowned Night Heron

I spotted this juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron (Nyctanassa violacea) doing day duty in the Wetlands Reserve area of the property. With acres of undisturbed nature to explore, Paya Bay is a great place for birdwatching.

Update on Paya Bay's 2020 reopening plans

In compliance with the latest governmental travel and operational restrictions, Paya Bay Resort will remain closed during the months of August and September, 2020. If it is possible at that time, we will plan for a "soft reopening" in October, followed by a full reopening in November, 2020.

Spider lily fireworks

In July, August, and September all the patches of Caribbean spider lilies (Hymenocallis caribaea) around the property put out their long, elegant flower stalks topped with delicate white lilies in various stages of blossoming. We enjoy several weeks of slow-motion floral "fireworks."

Outer bands of Nana

This morning the outer bands of tropical storm Nana started moving over the Bay Islands. Storm clouds and stormy conditions have their own unique beauty.
