Late Afternoon Swim with Thelma

After we ran on the beach for some exercise, Thelma and I took a cool off swim on the western corner of the Big Beach. This is a gorgeous spot on the property when the weather is just right.

In Memoriam

It's with heartfelt sadness that we communicate that Louise (a.k.a. "Lou-Lou,"  "440") passed yesterday. She was the inseparable adventure partner of her sister, Thelma, who survives her. Lou-Lou lived a wonderful life here at Paya the nine years she was with us. She  brought her own special energy to the mix and will be greatly missed by her humans.

Black iguanas on the rocks

Protected as they are on the property, Paya Bay Resort is home to a thriving population of black iguanas. They can often be spotted sunning on the rocky shorelines between the beaches.

Mahoe Variegated Sea Hibicus

The Mahoe Variegated Sea Hibiscus puts out a beautiful yellow blossom. Once fully mature, the yellow flowers helicopter to the ground and pretty consistently land face up. The flowers then start a beautiful metamorphosis from yellow to a crimson read, carpeting under their tree with their beautiful designs. It's one of few flowers that, arguably, become prettier AFTER they fall from the tree.
