es el cielo!

Este lugar es el cielo! Sabes, Davinci, yo no creía mucho en eso del "cielo." Pero ahora que conocí este lugar me doy cuenta que si podría existir. Ésto es un paraíso!
- A guest from Los Angeles, CA who checked in earlier today

Translation: "This place is heaven! You know, Davinci, I didn't believe too much in that whole "heaven" thing. But now that I've discovered this place, I'm thinking heaven could actually exist. This is paradise!"

rocky seascapes

The 22-acre peninsula on which Paya Bay sits is a rare and unique combination of rugged rock formations, splendid half-moon beaches, lush ridges, and quiet coves. Everywhere you look, you'll find lots of organic "eye candy" to enjoy and take in. The best part: All this fascinating natural beauty is easily accessible through our extensive network of nature trails.

survey says: roatan!

In its upcoming August 2013 edition, Travel & Leisure magazine highlights the island of Roatan, Honduras as one of the top five vacation islands found in Mexico, Central, and South America. This distinction extended to the largest of the Bay Islands results from a reader survey conducted by the magazine in which Roatan came in fourth after the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador, Belize's Ambergris Cay, and Isla Mujeres in Mexico. At a still impressive fifth place, Cozumel rounds off the list of Top Five Best Islands in the region.

paya in the press

The most recent edition of Estilo, a Central American lifestyle glossy, features Paya Bay Resort in two of its main articles (you may click the images below to enlarge).

The articles appear in the magazine's July 2013 travel edition. The cover art, above.

The article titled "Roatan Revisited"...

...highlights Paya Bay's yoga program (see photo at bottom right of page). The author states:
"Practice yoga in front of one of Paya Bay's three beaches and let your mind leave your body behind. The drive from West Bay to Paya Bay will allow you to explore the island by car. Don't forget to bring your camera as on the way you'll see the best panoramic views of Roatan."

Another article, "The Top 5 Best Beaches of Honduras," includes Paya Bay's Bliss Beach on its elite list of the country's five best beaches (see photo at bottom left):
"Far from the clatter of the cruise ships and Roatan's big hotels is uncrowded and turquoise Bliss Beach. This beach, part of a resort with all the comforts, is the only clothing-optional beach in Honduras."
Thank you, Estilo magazine, for so deeply appreciating Paya Bay and for beautifully highlighting our tropical paradise to your readers!

just one day, today

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

the flower months

Many of the native orchids found at Paya Bay bloom during June/July. In general, these two summer months are also great months for all types of flowers here on the property. Some examples:

she found the place!

Sometimes you look, you look, and you look...
...then you go, "AHHHhhhhh! I've FINALLY found the place!"
Paya Bay is the way it should be!

update: the black iguana

Work continues to progress on the Black Iguana beach bar. We are currently working on the mezzanine area right above and to the right of the plunge pool deck (as indicated in the first photo).

the law of attraction is listening

Criticism can be very subtle in the way it creeps into our thoughts. Here are some examples of criticism to help you become aware of its subtlety, so you can eliminate it from your thoughts:

The weather is awful today.
The traffic is terrible.
The service is really bad.
Oh no, look at the line.
He/she is always late.
How long do we have to wait for our order?
That motorist is a lunatic.
It's so hot in here.
I've been on hold for so long!

These are subtle things, but the law of attraction is listening to them all. You have the ability to appreciate something in every single circumstance. There is always something to be grateful for.

glimpses of paya

A series of photos I've taken around the property the past couple of weeks. Photography is a hobby (passion?) of mine.

when your eyes start to open

Man, D, it's a little freaky when your eyes start to open. All of a sudden you start seeing shit going on right in front of you that you hadn't noticed before. Seems everyone is caught up in a lot of twisted bullshit! There is a whole lot of fucked up going on! Honestly, sometimes I wonder if I can even handle this bizarre new level of awareness.

a swim with the puppy girls

Champion kitesurfers Marilou Lavallée and Chris Burg go for an afternoon swim at the Big Beach with new sister pups Thelma and Louise. The one Chris is carrying in his arms, Louise, is more anxious about going into the sea than her sister. On land, however, Louise is very adventurous and bold; definitely the bigger "troublemaker" of the two. Just like their movie namesakes!

Note that when they are not having blissful afternoons in the Caribbean Sea, Marilou and Chris offer convenient kitesurfing lessons, trips, and gear rental right here at Paya Bay Resort. Roatan, Bay Islands of Honduras.

tidied up and ready to go!

Our oddly-named 28-foot boat, the Polar (or, as Lisa and I mischievously call her, the "Bi Polar") just got some love. Fresh interior paint, and both her motors were tuned up and are working like fiddles. She's a great boat for the excursion to Pigeon Cay (see last photo).

welcome to paya!

Ms. Lurlene, my angelic mom, poses at Paya Bay's recently-acquired, custom-made reception desk. The desk was an initiative of my niece, Michelle. It materialized beautifully.
