I am a native Mississippian, and I currently still live, work, and go to school in the state. I have always had a lot of pride in my state for reasons that many don’t get to hear about due to the backwards politics and history of discrimination within the state. Growing up here was an experience I would not ever wish to change. I had woods to play in all day long, my summers were spent at the river either kayaking or swimming, and I could fish anytime I wanted, thanks to the five-acre lake at my grandmother’s house. Life was good. As I have gotten older and wiser, I have realized that Mississippi is a kind of “Neverland” that hasn't grown into a state to support adults. We are the poorest, most illiterate state in the country and, now that the Governor has signed SB 2681 into law with his buddy Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council present, I can be discriminated against by anyone who cites religion as their reason.

Your historic role gives you a unique and critical opportunity to help lead humanity away from our shameful, misguided tradition of hate, fear, mistrust, bigotry, and repression. During the last several centuries -- and particularly the last one -- we witnessed the unspeakable horrors these poisonous concepts are capable of bringing into our reality.

Mr. Putin, please do your part to help coax the human collective unto a path of universal love, a worldwide focus on our commonalities instead of our differences, planet-wide implementation and respect for universal human rights, and -- ultimately -- achieving our species' stunning potential: Infinite Love, Infinite Good, Infinite Light, and Infinite Possibilities.

The whole world is watching, sir. It's your move. I've no doubt you'll step boldly in the direction of true justice for Pussy Riot. As we all learn on the playground in grade school, real men don't beat up women.

The US took a groundbreaking step on global LGBT rights Tuesday, joining the UK in tying foreign aid to governments’ protection of sexual minorities, raising the stakes in the increasingly globalized battle over gay rights. 

The Obama Administration’s sweeping initiative —which will potentially steer billions of dollars in US aid toward countries and programs that protect rights while expanding efforts to protect LGBT refugees — was announced ahead of Human Rights Day. The timing reinforced a now-common refrain that has been spoken, chanted and shouted by rights activists around the world for decades: Gay rights equal human rights.

A gutsy, admirable, and transcendental move by the Obama administration. There is no argument stronger than human rights. I repeat: There is no argument stronger than human rights. Despite the despicable lies zealously perpetuated by some fear-mongering religions, it should be obvious to the reasoning person that no Love-based, omniscient, infallible "Creator" (if, indeed, such an entity exists) would discriminate against parts of its own creation. It's like God saying, "I'm Infinite Intelligence and Infinite Love, but -- just for kicks -- I'll create some humans with a sexual orientation "mistake" so the other 90% of humans can judge, bully, reject, vilify, and/or crucify them." Sorry. That simply makes no logical sense. If such a psychotic God entity exists, it should be locked in a padded room at an insane asylum. It's certainly not worthy of worship, that's for sure.

The "shining city upon a hill" is regaining some of its lost luster.
