good omen
A hummingbird recently decided to build her nest in a decorative branch located under the Black Iguana's giant palapa roof. Mom, a hummingbird aficionado, says it's a good omen.

photo of the day
Lunchtime at the hummingbird feeder. That IS condensation visible on the jug. For this particular feeder, Mom makes a half gallon of cane sugar nectar in the mornings, stores it in the fridge, and refills the feeder once or twice a day. The birds seem to love the liquid when it's nice and cool after a refill. These hummingbirds have become very accustomed to and unafraid of humans. Even if a person is standing a couple of feet away they will still turn their backs to you and feed. Fearless. They know who their "sugar humans" are! Paya Bay Resort, Roatan, Honduras.

Note the tiny iridescent feathers of this beautiful hummingbird. The hummingbirds at Paya are so accustomed to humans, it's like they've been domesticated. They'll keep a prudent distance given their small size, but - otherwise - they have virtually no fear of people.
A particularly busy "Happy Hour" at the feeders.
