It is possible to be happy and joyful most of the time. You just have to look at little children and see their natural joy. You may say that little children are free and don't have anything to worry about, but you are free too! You are free to choose worry or to choose joy, and whatever you choose will attract exactly that. Worry attracts more worry. Joy attracts more joy.

Cute, funny song and video about Utila, one of Roatan's sister islands in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Utila is considered the "party island," and is one of the cheapest places to get Scuba-certified in the world. As a result, the island, 20 miles west of Roatan, attracts a young, party-oriented segment of the tourism market. It's definitely a fun, crazy, charming island where everything goes!

This past week I took Brooke and Fernando to discover the Port Royal National Park. The main trail head of the park is a mere ten minutes by car from Paya Bay. Puppies Thelma and Louise came along as well for the hike. As the photos below attest, everyone loved it!

from atlanta to roatan, with love

My good friend Michelle Groover of Atlanta, Georgia brought down dozens of book bags filled with school supplies to give to less fortunate local kids. This past Friday morning, we held a fun event here at Paya Bay to hand out the school supplies. We organized lively, competitive games like egg and "wheelbarrow" races for the kids. Over one hundred school-aged Roatan children received a backpack full of school supplies! What an awesome way to encourage kids to be excited about school!

As president of Members Auto Choice, Michelle (along with her husband, Dan Stryzinski) is actively involved with many charity organizations back in Georgia. This "From Atlanta With Love" event is Michelle and Dan's first formal outreach to the international community. She thinks it could become an annual event for them. Thank you so much, Ms. Groover! Fernando and Brooke recently joined the team here at Paya Bay. Brooke is our new yoga instructor and resident masseuse. She hails from Minnesota. Fernando, from Costa Rica, will be Paya's concierge/activities coordinator, assisting guests with planning and enjoying their activities, tours, and excursions. Welcome on board, guys!

exploring the helene cave

On a recent trip to Helene I accompanied a group of very adventurous Paya Bay guests on an exploration of the island's famous cave. The jungle around the cave area has a mysterious, magical, "middle-earth" quality to it. Many of Helene's residents took refuge in this cave when Hurricane Mitch pummeled the island with category five winds for over 48 hours in 1998. This adventure will be offered as part of our new mystical weeks to be introduced in 2014!
