Caribbean seashore fruits and berries

During the summer months many of our tropical seashore trees, shrubs, and palms around the property get heavy with fruits and berries. It's a bonanza of food for the birds and other wildlife!

after the rain

I took a walk in the resort's herb garden yesterday after a strong rain shower...

The seagrape trees are loaded with fruit right now.

The mint bed loved the rain...

... as did the thick bed of broad-leaf cilantro.

Coco-plums.

sea grapes

The arrival of summer also means the beginning of sea grape (Coccoloba uvifera) season. This year we plan to make jam from the organic fruit to serve in the restaurant while supplies last. Sea grape jam is yummy!

coco plums

Mid May thru July the coco plum (Chrysobalanus icaco) trees around the property become loaded with fruit. The mild, fleshy fruits can be picked and eaten right off the trees.
