What's New in 2023

Happy New Year! Here at Paya Bay we're starting this new year with some newly completed maintenance projects and a very significant one that we've started working on just recently...

New roof on the restaurant...

New roof on the Beach House...

New wooden deck adjoining the main deck...

New bamboo security rails along the Zen Path...

And the very significant current project: we've started upgrading the baths in our rooms...

We continue to find amazing places to build new nature trails here on the Paya Bay property. Check back on the blog to see how this project continues to unfold...

a new access to Paya

As part of a settlement agreement we have come to with former business partners of my father, we are ceding 4.76 acres to these people on the eastern side of the Paya Bay property (the Big Beach side). Part of the agreement is the construction of a new access road through the wetlands for the resort, which will remain on 17 acres on the western side of the peninsula. The new access road is now under construction.

anti-gravity or aerial yoga

Rebecca, a yogi from Colorado, was scouting Roatan for a place to bring an aerial yoga retreat. Wikipedia states: "Anti-gravity yoga or "aerial yoga", is a new type of yoga, originating in New York but now being practiced in several countries, which combines the traditional yoga poses, pilates, and dance with the use of a hammock." Rebecca loved Paya's Ananda Pavilion and may very well lead a retreat here in the next several months. Stay tuned.

I tried it. The traction of hanging upside down feels amazing on the spine!

coming soon: the labyrinth

Labyrinths have been in human culture for some 3000 years, maybe longer. "Modern mystics use labyrinths to help them achieve a contemplative state. Walking among the turnings, one loses track of direction and of the outside world, and thus quiets the mind."

We are currently building our very own meditational labyrinth at Paya Bay, in a beautiful space carved out of the rocky terrain and tropical jungle...

project x (continued...)

This week we've been putting a good a bit of resources and energy into Project X, a new space on the west-facing part of the property that I'm tentatively calling Serenity. The work this week involves installing reinforced bamboo fencing around the perimeters of the dual-level deck spaces located above Buccaneer Landing. The new decks have commanding views of the verdant ridges of Roatan, the Diamond Rock mangrove forests, the tranquil seagrass flats between the island and the reef, the Mesoamerican barrier reef, the Caribbean Sea beyond it, and the expansive, infinite tropical sky. This is the perfect spot for sunset events at the resort.
